Occupational and Physical Therapy

Evaluations

An Occupational Therapy Evaluation and/or Physical therapy Evaluation is the first step of the therapy process. A comprehensive evaluation typically takes 75-90 minutes utilizing standardized testing and clinical observations.  The HELP, Berry VMI, Peabody Motor Development Scales (PDMS-2) , Sensory Profile 2, and Bruinicks Test is Motor Proficiency (BOT-2) are some testing measures used. Sensory processing, sensory motor,  self help skills, social emotional skills, gross motor and fine motor development are assessed during the full evaluation process. Depending on your child's needs, clinical observations may be completed in the home setting, school setting and/or sensory clinic setting. Standardized scores and test results, clinical observations and parent, caregiver, and teacher interview findings are provided in a comprehensive evaluation report. Goals, treatment planning and recommendations are discussed with family in a separate 45 minute meeting.

*Note: All new clients are required to have an assessment or evaluation prior to beginning services. This is essential to ensure an accurate baseline, set goals, create a treatment plan and encourage a family centered approach to therapy sessions.  A NYC board of education (CPSE or CSE), Early Intervention or outside private evaluation will be considered on a case by case basis.
